In a pilot with a family jeweller in Laval. Not for sale yet.

Made for the counter

Each part starts from a problem jewellers described to us. What is not built yet is marked.

The counter

A sale at a jewellery counter is rarely at the till. It happens at the window, at the bench, beside the client with the ring already on her finger.

  • Hold a piece for a client while they decide.
  • Discounts as an amount or a percentage, with a manager’s approval past a limit.
  • Returns, exchanges and voids with their reason, store credit and gift receipts.
  • Gift cards sold and spent at the counter.
  • Receipts by email.
  • The till: float, cash in and out, a blind count and close.
  • A finished sale is never deleted or edited.
  • Sell from an iPad anywhere in the store, offline included. Being tested
  • Printed receipts and the cash drawer. Being tested
  • Card payments sent to a Helcim terminal; card data never touches our servers. Being tested
  • Receipts by text or WhatsApp, only to clients who agreed. Being tested
  • Layaway and special orders. Being tested

Stock and diamonds

Stock lives in a spreadsheet, a tray and someone’s memory. Loose stones are the hardest of all to keep track of.

  • Every piece with its photos, cost, metal, weight, shape, carats and lab report number.
  • Receiving from suppliers, with each piece’s cost.
  • Memo and consignment, with what is owed to each supplier.
  • Counts by area.
  • Your stock valued at cost on any past day.
  • Scanning into a count on several iPads, and tags printed from the record. Being tested
  • Metal value at the market price. Coming

Repairs

Coming

A ring left for sizing passes through four hands and two weeks. When the client calls, someone has to find the envelope.

  • Intake with photos, the chain of custody, and a text when it is ready. Coming

Buying gold

Coming

Buying gold from the public comes with a register your city can ask to see, and a hold before you melt or resell.

  • The used-gold register: the seller’s ID, photos, weight, the day’s price and the city’s hold. Coming

Clients

Ring sizes, anniversaries, the pendant he looked at twice: it is all in a notebook, or nowhere.

  • One page per client, with the history of every change.
  • Consent per channel, with the date it was given.
  • Sizes, birthdays and anniversaries on the client’s page.
  • Households, wish lists and campaigns. Coming

Reports and compliance

At the end of the day someone counts the till on a scrap of paper. At the end of the quarter someone sits down with a box of receipts.

  • The day’s takings by payment method and by iPad.
  • Spending and bank deposits.
  • The team’s hours, commissions and SPIFFs.
  • FINTRAC large cash transaction drafts, with their due dates, filed by the owner.
  • GST and QST summaries for filing, and your accountant’s export. Coming

Moving in

Years of clients and stock are locked inside the old system. Changing feels like starting again.

  • Clients, pieces, and gift card and store credit balances brought in from a spreadsheet export of your current system, checked before anything is written; nothing is ever deleted or zeroed.
  • Repair and layaway history, and a mapping made ready for your system. Coming

The assistant

Coming

Follow-ups bring clients back, and they are the first thing to slip on a busy Saturday.

  • Listings drafted for your pieces, replies and follow-ups prepared; nothing leaves without your approval. Coming
  • Plain answers to questions about your numbers. Coming
